Small Gestures Can Have a Big Impact

It is no secret that trying out a sustainable life is going to improve the world around us, but what we might not realise is that as well as this, it can also have a positive impact on us as people too.


How to start living in a more sustainable way?


Here are what I consider my 3 most important sustainable lifestyle choices you can start with that will have a positive impact on your health and that of your family, which I hope could tempt you into making the change:


TIP 1. Eating less packaged and highly processed foods is going to cut down the sugar, the harmful chemicals and the preservatives that you eat while improving your diet at the same time.


Where to buy less packaged and processed foods?


TIP 2. Buying from locally sourced traders such as local markets and farms will not only ensure that you are buying produce that is fresh and seasonal, but you will also be benefiting your local area and your local community as well. You’ll find grass-fed beef, organic chicken, and pesticide-free seasonal fruits and vegetables that are much more colourful and rich in nutrients.


When to buy if you have no time?


Weekends are just perfect to plan ahead for the week. Make a list of the recipes you will cook. Then, make a list of all the ingredients you need. And lastly, try shopping as much as you can from the farmers' market right around the corner. A small charity gesture that will promote the local economy and benefit the planet from carbon emissions since local seasonal foods do not need much transportation.


TIP 3. Opt for glass, stainless steel bottles and containers. Plastic, no matter BPA free, exposes you to harmful chemicals and endocrine disruptors and delivers far more negative environmental impacts than health benefits. Opt for water filters and reusable plastic free bottles.


When you adopt a sustainable lifestyle you will realise that those things that you always thought were great, such as plastic bottled water, are no longer good for the world around us, neither for us.
